Is comorbidity the only criteria for bariatric surgery?

Bariatric surgery, as we all know, are surgeries that are done to help people lose weight. But do all fat or obese people require bariatric surgery? Who can and who should undergo bariatric surgery? The selection of candidates or patients for bariatric surgery should be done carefully for successful outcomes. The primary condition that bariatric surgery aims to eliminate is morbid obesity or severe obesity. Morbid obesity often causes several other comorbidities that can be easily resolved with bariatric surgery.
Comorbidities are medical conditions that are related to or caused by some other medical condition. Some of the comorbidities caused by severe obesity are diabetes, hypertension, heart diseases, coronary artery disease, stroke, sleep apnea, lung diseases, osteoarthritis, high cholesterol, etc. Bariatric surgery aims to prevent and reverse all these comorbidities in severely obese people. So it can safely be said that morbid obesity is a criterion for bariatric surgery.
